Grief Recovery Method:  Healing Loss and Grief

When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves.

Loss Is So Much More Than Death

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss, of any kind.  We grieve any time there is an end, or change in, any familiar pattern of behavior in our lives.  In short, we grieve for everything. To experience grief is part of what makes us human beings.  As humans, we are supposed to feel both the sweet and the sour emotions and to process them in a healthy way.  Yet most of us were never taught how to grieve in a helpful way.  Grief is universal and yet we are not well prepared to really handle, manage or recover from the emotional impact which result from these changes and losses.

The Grief Recovery Method will help you explore your beliefs around grief and through a series of steps and exercises guide you through a process to complete or find closure around your loss.  At every step the griever is respected, listened to and heard without judgement or analysis, and is supported in identifying and giving voice to the array of emotions that accompany the full extent of the loss.  Once the GRM process is completed for one loss, it can be used over and over again, to address other past losses, and to help more quickly address new losses.

Loss is Universal, Grief is Personal.

What is the Grief Recovery Method?

Through a defined step-by-step process, the GRM first explores the “old, ineffective tools” we’ve been using to deal with our grief and loss.  You will be given an opportunity to explore your own ideas and beliefs about grief and where those beliefs come from.   Then you will be introduced to a new set of tools which can be used across a wide gamut of losses – from persons, to pets, to hopes and dreams and expectations, to those intangible things like trust, safety or faith.

What can I expect during this Process?

The GRM is an action-based program that involves reading and writing assignments as outlined in “The Grief Recovery Handbook, the Action Program for Moving Beyond Death, Divorce and Other Losses.”  Chapters from the book are broken up and assigned over the 7 week period.   The assignments (as found in the book) are all about self reflection and most people find them enjoyable and extrememly insightful. The book is available in hardcover, paperback and kindle.  You may also receive the book for free when you sign up for the 7 weeks with Suzanne.  Suzanne offers the GRM in a one-on-one format for 7 consecutive weeks.

Suzanne Accardo, M. Ed.

Suzanne discovered the Grief Recovery Method in December of 2019 after reading the “little purple book” with the same title: “The Grief Recovery Method.”  After reading the book she knew she needed to know more about the program.  This grief work was different than any of the other programs she had participated in after the sudden death of her husband in 2015.  The process and steps of the GRM were life changing and allowed her to let go of a pain that had been holding her captive for years.  She now feels fortunate, as a Grief Recovery Specialist, to be able to share this program with others who are also experiencing loss and grief.
