Yoga

About Our Classes:

Yoga is for everyone. It doesn’t matter what your body type is, what your personal goals are or what your current fitness level is. The most common benefits of yoga are increased flexibility, improved strength and greater peace of mind.

At The Yoga Place we have a variety of classes that can suit your needs, from beginner to advanced. If you are brand new to yoga and have no physical limitations we suggest you begin with the Hatha Yoga Classes. If you have physical limitations such as excess weight, arthritis, or have been inactive for a long time you should start with Relax and Restore.

Classes are ongoing and prorated so you can sign up at anytime. You are invited to discover for yourself the wonderful benefits of yoga. If you live in the area, your first class is free. Please call ahead so we can be prepared for your visit.

Beginner or Easy to Follow

Beginner’s Yoga: Designed for those with little or no previous yoga experience who want to learn the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga. Learn proper alignment, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques for a healthier body and mind. This class would also work for those who want a gentle class. This class is ongoing; you may sign up at any time.

Gentle Yoga:  A form of hatha yoga that is easy to follow, slower paced and accessible to people of all sizes, ages and fitness levels. Learn the fundamental concepts found in all styles of yoga; deep breathing, rejuvenating body stretches, stress reduction and relaxation.  This is a great class for beginners or those who just want a gentler class.

Inspirational Yoga:  Combines the traditional components (breathing, postures, and relaxation) of a hatha class with an exploration and discussion of the emotional and spiritual issues we encounter in our journey of life.  This is a wonderful class for those seeking to discover or deepen their spirituality.

Mindfulness  & Meditation:  Experience the wonderful benefits of becoming more mindful and centered in your daily living.  This class teaches the fundamental steps of becoming more mindful or aware of how you interact with life and use your mind.  Sometimes we use the mind to make things more difficult like, anxiety, negativity and anger.  Through these easy to follow techniques you can begin the process of breaking negative thinking and limiting behavior.   Class includes a short discussion/lecture, simple stretches to relieve muscle tension and ends with guided imagery or meditation.

Relax and Restore:  A restorative style of yoga for all ages and all body types.  Drawing on the benefits and style of Svaroopa Yoga, this class will teach you how to release tension stored in the spine and muscles of the body.  You will learn to relax in a way that is healing from the inside out.  This class is wonderful for all levels of fitness but especially beneficial to those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia, low back pain and injuries.  The poses are supported and held longer in order for the body to relax and let go of tension.  Learn to relax, release and restore your body to a healthier state.

Beginner to Intermediate

Hatha Yoga:  Our most popular class includes flexibility, strength and balance postures with an emphasis on deep breathing and relaxation techniques for decreasing stress.  A well rounded class, that is appropriate for all levels. Class includes sun salutations.  We recommend this class for beginners with no physical limitations.

Vinyasa Flow: The Vinyasa yoga style of yoga links breath and movement to create a flowing series of poses. This is an intermediate class offering lots of sun salutations to create heat and intensity. Poses are not held as long but move fluidly from one pose to the next, linked by "down dogs" and cobras or "up dogs". Previous yoga experience is helpful.

Yoga for Teens:  An  easy to follow fun Hatha yoga class for teens that will improve strength, flexibility, and balance.  Discover relaxing and calming techniques that work with the mind to reduce anxiety and stress.  No previous yoga experience is required.  (please note a Hatha class is available at the same time in Studio A if parents would like to attend a class also).  Cost: $5 per class.

Intermediate to Advanced

Heat and Sun:  Sun Salutations combined with more challenging poses and practiced in a warm room.  The heat allows the muscles to become soft and fluid allowing for deeper stretches. This is a great class for those who want to improve their strength.  Not recommended for individuals with limitations.

Yoga for Strength: A series of poses that focus on building strength, endurance and balance. This class is recommended for those without limitations and enjoy a more physically demanding practice. Challenging but not complicated. No previous yoga experience required. This class focuses more on the physical aspects of yoga.
